Breach Response Products Compared

SE Labs announces comparative breach response testing

Breach Response Products Compared

The next phase in our Breach Response test is to start comparing products. There has been high demand for comparative testing since we first proposed our Breach Response test back in 2016. Clients really want to see breach response products compared.

Comparing products in the Breach Response test

For the last few years our Breach Response reports have been of standalone products.

The first milestone is this summer, when we will be running a private comparative test of products. Comparatives in this space are few and far between. Good ones are even rarer. Therefore we have taken very prudent steps towards this goal over the last couple of years. We plan to publish a public comparative report in the first half of 2022.

Free Security Keys

SE Labs is giving away 100 security keys (and keyrings)

THIS FREE OFFER IS NOW OVER.

To celebrate our 100th blog post the team at SE Labs is giving away 100 security keys. And our exclusive, stylish keyrings!

We bought 100 security keys back before the COVID-19 pandemic turned the world upside down. The idea was to give them away at security conferences. Since then, in-person meetings were cancelled worldwide and we didn’t have a chance to give away these useful keys.

So we’re giving them away now, online. Subscribe to our newsletter and be among the first to learn when the next batch will become available!

Dive into cybersecurity

SE Labs CTO Stefan Dumitrascu offers some words of advice and encouragement to those considering a career in cybersecurity. And to those who may not think that they can do it!

considering a career in cybersecurity

Are you considering a career in cybersecurity? What does it take? A degree in computer science? A bag of certifications? A laptop full of stickers and a body full of tattoos and piercings? Depending on who you talk to, and which Twitter accounts you follow, you might believe you need all the above. But that’s not (necessarily) true.

Attacking the problem

At SE Labs we test security products by attacking through them, like real attackers. We are red-team testers, which means we must know how to behave like bad guys such as cybercriminals. And as our business grows we need to find people to join us.

SE Labs launches new security testing site

new security testing site

The new security testing site reflects the changes in the security industry over the last few years. We’ve listened hard to your feedback and watched as the industry’s needs have changed.

Clients, both security vendors and their customers, need increasingly customised analysis of products and their effectiveness. Which is the best? And what does ‘best’ really mean?

SE Labs vs COVID-19

SE Labs vs COVID-19

Be in no doubt, SE Labs vs COVID-19 will be a battle. The current global health crisis will inevitably affect everyone’s productivity in the coming months. SE Labs will do everything it can to handle the challenges that we all face.

We want to be realistic about how effective we are going to be at delivering our testing programmes. The next six months pose significant risk. We plan to continue with our usual feedback processes and report publications .

We will not compromise on the quality of the work. However, we face imminent and major disruption. It is unlikely that we will be able to publish reports at our usual and reliable frequency*.

Building a security lab (literally)

logo design concept

I’ve seen a few ‘how to build your own security testing lab’ documents in the past, but many have struck me as being ‘what I would do’ rather than ‘what I did’. Here you can follow us building a security lab (literally).

Having gone through the process myself at least three times over the last 15 years I thought some people might be interested in seeing a series of photos on our new blog, taken while we were literally building SE Labs from scratch.

SE Labs: Next-Generation Security Testing

Next-Generation Security Testing

I am proud to announce the first public reports from SE Labs, a new security testing company that tests a whole range of security products, from the sort of anti-malware program you run on your home PC to complex combinations of enterprise endpoint agents and appliances. We’re calling it Next-Generation Security Testing.

The new website will be live in the next day or so, after we’ve ironed out what I hope will be the last few wrinkles. (Update: 12/05/2016 – the website is live now).

Since January 2016 we’ve been testing endpoint security products by exposing them to live web threats and targeted attacks. The results are very interesting and will probably cause some controversy.
